Mole Removal & Cyst Removal in Seattle & Bellevue
How are Moles Removed?
Moles are benign pigmented growths that can occur anywhere on the face and body. Many patients do not like the appearance of moles and would like them removed while minimizing scarring. Moles that are small and raised can be easily removed by shaving off the mole in a very precise way. In general, this heals very quickly and leaves either no visible scar, or a very slight pink area that is much less noticeable than the mole was. Larger moles or moles that are flat with the skin may require a small excision and a few sutures. Dr. Scott frequently removes moles from patients and will determine which method of mole removal will create the best cosmetic outcome. Although most moles are benign, all moles removed will be examined by a pathologist to be certain that there is no cancer within it.

How are cysts removed?
Cysts can occur anywhere on the face, body, or scalp. The most common type of cyst is filled with thick, white, oily material. While it is tempting to try and “pop” cysts, this can lead to inflammation and infection and should be avoided. Cysts almost always return if they are simply drained or aspirated. To remove a cyst and prevent it from coming back, the lining of the cyst which makes the oily material has to be removed. This is done with a small incision in the skin which is then closed with sutures. Dr. Scott is an expert at removing cysts, and will optimize the incision so that it heals in the least noticeable way.

Will I have a Scar?
Any procedure that disrupts the skin has the chance of leaving a scar. Dr. Scott is an expert at mole and cyst removal and will optimize your procedure to allow it to heal in the best possible way. The chances of having a visible scar depends on the location of the mole. Moles on the face can often be removed with minimal visible scarring. Moles on the body are more likely to leave a visible pink or white spot in the site of the prior mole.
